Projektbeschreibung

High blood pressure is one of the most common causes of cardiovascular disease and affects many people worldwide. Although effective medications exist, therapy does not work equally well for everyone. About half of people stop taking their blood pressure medication within the first year or do not take it regularly.

Age, gender, origin and individual living circumstances, among other things, play a role here. Women, for example, report side effects of blood pressure medication more often than men. Such differences can lead to medication being taken irregularly or stopped altogether. This is where the GeDiMed project comes in.

The name stands for gender- and diversity-sensitive monitoring and optimisation of medication effects and side effects, using hypertension as an example (Geschlechts- und diversitätssensibles Monitoring und Optimieren von Medikamentenwirkung und -nebenwirkung am Beispiel von Bluthochdruck). The aim of the project is to develop a digital application that helps tailor blood pressure therapies more individually and better to the needs of each person.

How does GeDiMed work?

The digital application records important information about the treatment – including blood pressure values, medication intake and personal well-being. This information is processed in a structured way and made accessible to treating professionals. In this way, changes can be detected early and therapy can be adjusted more precisely. At the same time, the application supports patients in taking their medication regularly and keeping better track of their own health. GeDiMed takes into account that medical treatments do not work equally well for everyone. Differences, for example by gender, age and origin, are systematically included. The application is thereby intended to contribute to more gender- and diversity-sensitive care.

Developed together – for the care of tomorrow

Affected people and treating professionals are involved in the development of the application from the start. This ensures that the digital solution not only works technically but is also oriented towards people's actual needs. At the same time, the project considers ethical, legal and social questions from the outset. The findings gained are intended to feed directly into care practice.

Prospects for personalised medicine

GeDiMed shows how digital technologies can help take differences between people into greater account in medical treatment. The application developed is also intended to be transferable to other therapeutic areas in the future. In this way, GeDiMed makes an important contribution to personalised and diversity-sensitive medicine – a medicine that takes differences seriously and tailors treatments better to the individual.
